The Internet grew a lot in 1995. Luckily for me, the number of Squiddy voters did not grow quite so much. Thank you to the 145 people who made their opinions count. I also want to thank Jeff McCoskey, Glenn Carnagey, Mike Chary, the programmers of perl & Excel 5, and everyone who mailed me with spelling, eligibility & other error checks.
All last year, people complained that Sandman: The Kindly Ones was dragging on too long. That sentiment carried over into the voting, with Neil Gaiman & company falling out of their customary #1 spots in almost every category.
For 1995, the honors went mainly to Kurt Busiek's Astro City, Starman, and Legion of Super-Heroes, with Books of Magic, Flash, and Impulse close behind. The voting audience gave very clear support to DC, and strong repudiation to Marvel. This one's for you, Mr. Perelman.
In comic strips, Calvin & Hobbes continued its overwhelming victory from previous votes. A fitting final year for a wonderful strip. Dilbert is the obvious heir apparent, taking second and replacing C&H's top of the page spot in my local Baltimore Sun.
In the Online awards, I had fun surfing the entries in the Web Site award. Thanks are due for http://altavista.digital.com, which allowed me to find all the URLs that voters were too lazy to tell me (hint, hint). I highly recommend visiting the winning sites, even though it took ages to load ElfQuest's graphics over my 14.4 PPP connection.
